One Piece: Why does Kaido's son, Yamato have horns like Kaido's minions

 One Piece Kaido and Yamato don't have much in common. The only things they seem to share are their strength, their fighting style, and their genes. With that said, there is one distinguishing feature of the two of them having their horns.

For some reason, both  Kaido and  Yamato had grown horns growing from their heads. Not only that, many Beast Pirates also seem to have horns. Normally, humans couldn't grow horns, so there must be something special about these people that allowed them to have this extra growth. Obviously, they were far from normal humans, but there was probably more to it than that. Here is what is known about  Yamato ,  Kaido , and the Beast Pirates and how that knowledge may explain what the story behind their horns is.

It is important to note that Yamato and Kaido's horns are actually part of their bodies. A possible explanation for them is that they only wear head coverings that look like horns, meaning that they are technically still human beings. However, when they transform using their Zoan Devil Fruit, the animal that becomes their animal clearly has horns attached to their heads.

It should also be noted that their horns may not be a by-product of their Devil Fruit. Kaido transforms into the Azure Dragon, which is traditionally depicted with horns; in Kaido's case, he has horns other than his Devil Fruit horns. Instead, Yamato's fruit turns him into kuchi -no-Makami, a wolf god not traditionally depicted with horns; even so, Yamato still maintained his horns even when transforming. It is clear that their horns are part of their basic form rather than something carried over from their Devil Fruit form.

Kaido and Yamato may not actually be humans at all, but rather other beings who are fully known as oni. Generally, when people talk about Kaido, they refer to him as a "creature" or "thing", but never a human or a person. This could be interpreted as a metaphor for his inhuman strength, but it was possible that he was, in fact, some kind of monster beyond humans.

Apart from the horns, there are a few more clues that suggest that Kaido and Yamato are actually oni. Their weapon of choice is the kanab, which is commonly associated with oni. They live on the island of Onigashima, which literally translates to "oni island." Kaido's dialogue in Chapter One Piece 1025, "Twin Dragons," makes the humans sound like a different species from himself and Yamato. While details of their race have yet to be determined, all signs suggest they are some kind of oni.

It's also possible that  Yamato and  Kaido are part of an undisclosed human. There are many human races with non-human traits such as wings or a third eye. Such a race also fell victim to slavery and worse at the hands of ordinary humans. If  Kaido and  Yamato are from persecuted people, then that would explain the first insulting dialogue and attitude towards humans shown in  One Piece Chapter 1025.

As for the other Beast Pirates, they were most likely mostly human. Their horns may be accessories designed to imitate the look of their captain. There must have been members of the Beast Pirates to be seen with and without horns. Of course there were Beast Pirates who looked like they naturally grew horns, but the chances of them all having real horns were extremely low.

Adding to this theory is the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance, all of whom had to dress up as the Beast Pirates for the  Onigashima Raid ; most of them also have horns sticking out of their heads, though obviously never had them before. Since most in the raid group only wore horns as accessories, the same was true for the Beast Pirates.

For now, the truth behind  Yamato and  Kaido 's horns remains largely unknown. They seem to be part of their bodies, in which case  Yamato most likely inherited his own horn from his father. They may be a new human race that has not been fully explained. After all, it was clear that Yamato 's horn  was something he was born with.
